Tom Foote, a four-year letterman as a place-kicker in football (27-9/.750) and catcher in baseball (100-54-2/.650), contributed a hand and foot toward Elmhurst winning two CCIW football crowns in 1978 and 1980, and sweeping up CCIW baseball titles from 1979 through 1981. The baseball Bluejays twice qualified for NAIA and NCAA post-season tournaments.

In football, Foote was named to the CoSIDA All-America Team in 1980, NAIA District 20 All-Star Team in 1979 and All-CCIW first team in 1979 and 1980. He was chosen Elmhurst's co-Most Valuable Offensive Player in 1980, when he set single-season school records with 59 kicking points and 10 field goals. Foote is Elmhurst's career leader in extra points with 106, kickoffs with 99 and kickoff yardage with 4,625, and he ranks sixth in career scoring with 160 points. He is in a tie for hold of the single game school record with seven extra points.

In baseball, Foote was named to the All-CCIW second team in 1981, when he batted .313 overall with eight home runs and drove in 34 runs for Elmhurst (32-12, 14-2).
