A 1986 graduate, Karen holds the majority of the Bluejay women's basketball scoring and rebounding records, including career marks of 1,780 points and 1,112 rebounds. Her 692 points in 1981-82 and 374 rebounds in 1985-86 are both single-season records, and her 23 rebounds versus Wheaton College on March 6, 1982, is a single-game record. During her extended four-year career, the Bluejays won more than 70 percent (74-30) of their games, starting with a 20-win season (20-8) in 1981-82 and concluding with a school-best record of 24-3 in 1985-86. The 1985-86 team won the last Chicago Metro Conference title and finished third in the NCAA Division III Central Regional. The 1981-82 team finished third in the Illinois Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (IAIAW) state tournament, with Kinsella earning all-tournament team honors. Kinsella also lettered in softball two years as an outfielder.
