A 1976 graduate, Bruce Cowman was a two-time All-CCIW selection and four-year men's basketball letterman at point guard/shooting guard. He ranks among Bluejay career leaders in assists (pre-rule change) at 391, field goals at 569, scoring at 1,349 and free throws at 211. His 177 assists in 1974-75 remains a single-season school record, and his 1975-76 totals of 585 points (4th) and 246 field goals (4th) also rank among the best for a season. For the first three years, Bruce teamed with shooting guard Bill Simpson, ’75 (3rd all-time with 1,669 points), a 1980 inaugural member of the Bluejay Backer Hall of Fame, to give Elmhurst its most potent backcourt pairing in history. The Bluejays posted a .540 winning percentage (55-46) over his career, including a 37-27 mark (.580) in CCIW play.
