Green was a standout football and track athlete and was named an All-Conference player in 1978 and 1979 and NAIA All-American his junior year in football. He was the team's most valuable player and captain his senior year, and held the career record for most quarterback sacks for 17 years. Green was also a conference champion in discus his junior year.
