A 1982 graduate, Steve lettered in football and track. Finch held two season records with most receptions with 55 (held for 21 years), and most yards receiving with 1004 in 1981 (held for 27 years). He also ranks third all-time in career receiving yards with 1,914 yards from 1978-81. Finch was an all-conference pick in 1979, 1980, and 1981. He was a member of the Chicago Bruisers of the Arena Football League in 1987 shortly thereafter served as a member of the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL.
