Elmhurst University Athletics Hall of Fame
A member of the inaugural Bluejay Backer Hall of Fame Class in 1980, Oliver "Uncle Pete" Langhorst was a star on the football field. During his tenure, Elmhurst posted some of its best seasons in school history.
After graduating in 1930, Langhorst returned to the College in 1933 and began coaching. Langhorst coached nearly every major intercollegiate sport at Elmhurst, including football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. Langhorst also served as Elmhurst's athletic director. Until his retirement in 1969, Langhorst was still actively coaching the track and cross country squads, as well as teaching physical education. He helped develop the Elmhurst Intercollegiate Invitational into a premier track and field meet.
The College named it's football and track stadium Langhorst Field on May 16, 1969.
