A member of three CCIW-champion teams (1979, 1980, 1981,) Malin was one of three pitchers from the 1981 team to be drafted professionally (Malin was picked up by the San Francisco Giants). During his junior and senior seasons, the Bluejays advanced to the NCAA Division III West Regional.

Malin was a first-team all-CCIW selection as a senior after he compiled a 9-2 record with 69 strikeouts. His name appears constantly in the Bluejays' record books. He ranks first all-time in wins in a season (9), third in career winning percentage (.727), fifth in strikeouts in a season (69), and eighth in both career victories (16) and career strikeouts (144).
