A 1980 graduate, Cheryl Ruyak was a four-time women's tennis state quarterfinalist who captured the Illinois Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (IAIAW) championship at No. 1 singles in 1976, when the freshman compiled an 11-1 record for the first of four straight years with double-digit wins. Her 51-19 (.729 winning percentage) career record at No. 1 singles remains a school record and puts her third on the all-time singles record list. In doubles play, Ruyak won two out of every three matches and compiled an 11-5 record as a senior. Elmhurst compiled a .643 winning percentage (27-15-1) and never had a losing season during her career, including then-school records of eight wins in both 1978 (8-3-1) and 1979 (8-5).
