Beck coached the football Bluejays to conference co-championships in 1978 and 1980, and Elmhurst compiled a school-best winning percentage of .694 overall (50-22) and .656 in conference (42-22) during his eight-year tenure (1976-83). The 1983 Bluejays led the NCAA Division III in total offense and scoring. His coaching records at Elmhurst include 50 wins (tied with Wendall Harris, 50-44-1, 11 seasons), 42 conference wins, seven straight winning seasons (1977-83) and six straight winning conference seasons (1978-83). He has contributed toward the development of numerous All-Americans and seven Hall of Fame players. Tom has compiled a .725 winning percentage (137-52-1) as a college head coach. He sandwiched stops at NCAA Division III Benedictine College (37-12-1) and NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University (50-18) around his Elmhurst years. The University of Notre Dame went 10-2 in 1991 and the University of Illinois was 6-5-1 in 1992 with Tom as the offensive coordinator.
