A 1990 graduate, Williams was a three-time All-America middle hitter who lettered four years in women's volleyball. During her career, Elmhurst garnered runner-up honors at the 1987 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, won CCIW championships three years in a row (1986-88), and compiled a .682 winning percentage (116-54). Williams was named to the Russell Athletic NCAA Division III All-America first team in 1988 and second team in 1987, the 1987 GTE College Division Academic All-America second team and the 1987 NCAA Division III Championship All-Tournament Team. She received American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Midwest Region first team recognition in 1988 and 1987, and earned GTE College Division Academic All-District 5 first team honors in 1989 and 1987. A three-time All-CCIW first-team honoree (1987-89), she was selected as CCIW Player of the Year in 1988. A three-sport letter-winner, Williams played three years in women's basketball as a center and competed one year in track and field as a high jumper, triple jumper and sprinter. In basketball, she ranks high on Elmhurst's record list in career scoring (765 points), rebounding (606 rebounds), and blocked shots (175 blocks). In track and field, she placed third (then school record of 33-1 ½) in the CCIW triple jump and fourth (4-10) in the high jump in 1987, when Williams also set school records (then) outdoors in the 400-meter dash (1:04.6), the 400-meter relay (:52.3) and the 1,600-meter relay (4:17.9).
