A three-year letterman in track and field, Elonza Sherman garnered All-America honors (top-eight finish) in 1981 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships with a fourth-place triple jump of 47-7, then a school record. Sherman also placed second (46-1 1/4) and fifth in the triple jump at the CCIW Championships in 1981 and 1980; respectively.

A two-sport letterman, Sherman played defensive back in football for four years and was a member of the Bluejays' 1978 and 1980 CCIW-Championship teams. In 1980, he contributed 26 tackles, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
