Box Score PONTIAC, Mich. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team erased a four-goal halftime deficit to topple Wittenberg University 13-11 in the Bluejays' season-opening contest at the Ultimate Arena in Michigan.
Elmhurst trailed 4-8 at halftime, but outscored the Tigers 5-1 in the third quarter to knot the score at 9-9 entering the final quarter. Elmhurst outscored the Tigers 9-3 in the game's final 30 minutes.
Ty Funderburk scored the Bluejays' only goal of the first quarter. Luke Richardson scored off a
Dan O'Connell assist in the second quarter on an extra-man advantage. O'Connell added back-to-back goals for the Bluejays in the second to account for the remainder of Elmhurst's first half goals.
The Bluejays exploded for five goals in the third quarter with
Mac Harden scoring his first goal of the game. Harden had a hand in the next three goals, assisting on goals from Funderburk and
Jake Cambron before tallying his second goal of the quarter off an assist from Marcus Yandall. Funderburk completed a hat trick for the Bluejays' fifth goal of the quarter.
O'Connell netted his third goal of the game in the fourth quarter, before Harden struck for back-to-back goals. Yandall tallied the final goal of the contest for the Bluejays.
Harden paced Elmhurst in the win, finishing with four goals and two assists. Funderburk added three goals and an assist while O'Connell also found the back of the net for three goals and added one assist. Cullen Nordeman assisted on the final two goals of the contest for the Bluejays.
The Bluejays were successful on 16-of-18 clearing attempts while
Carter Meyer posted a 16-9 mark in the faceoff circle.
Noah Bachofen picked up the victory in the cage, recording seven saves while earning his first win goal for the Bluejays.
