ELMHURST, Ill. – A historic season would come to an end on Saturday evening for Elmhurst Men's Lacrosse, as the CCIW title-holders came up short in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship, 19-6 against R.I.T. (N.Y.).
After the Tigers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead to open the game, the Jays settled in, with Landon Davis scoring twice and one from Hunter Hernandez tying the game with three straight goals midway through the first quarter.
RIT would score two more before the end of the opening period, and Davis would respond with another goal to open the second, recording his fifth hat trick of the season.
Davis' goal would cut the deficit to one goal, 5-4 at the 8:24 mark of the second quarter, but RIT would take control from there, scoring four straight to close out the half before going 6-0 in the third quarter as part of a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Leading the Bluejays with three goals on the day was Davis, with Hernandez finishing with two in the back of the net. Brent Diehl scored a fourth-quarter goal, while Eli Spence tallied two assists. Andrew Lacksonen made 11 saves in net.
With the loss, Elmhurst falls to 15-4 on the year, setting a program record with 15 wins to go along with the team's first ever regular-season and tournament CCIW championships, as well as their first NCAA tournament appearance.
