Bluejays double-up Titans to claim CCIW tournament title

ELMHURST, Ill. – One week after securing the first CCIW title in team history, the Bluejays' Men's Lacrosse program completed the double by knocking off the three-time defending tournament champions Illinois Wesleyan, 19-9 at Langhorst Field on Saturday afternoon.

Eli Spence and Hunter Hernandez combined for the first two scores of the game, but the Titans would respond with back-to-back goals of their own to pull even less than five minutes into the match. Both teams would trade goals again, with Hernandez finding his second of the day, but the Jays took over from the mid-point of the first quarter and dominted the rest of the way with six unanswered goals to take a 9-3 lead midway through the second period.

The Bluejays would lead by no less than five throughout the rest of the game, with Hernandez leading the way with seven goals and an assist in the win. Spence would tally six goals with four assists.

With his performance on Saturday, Spence eclipsed 400 career points during his time at Elmhurst, placing him 11th all-time in the NCAA Division III record books with 403 career points.

Charlie Ferree contributed three goals and two assists in the win, while Andrew Lacksonen made ten saves to earn his 15th win of the season.

With both regular season and tournament trophies in hand, the Bluejays now wait to see their draw in the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship. The selection show to reveal the field of 40 teams is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. CT on Sunday, May 3, and will be streamed live at NCAA.com.
