Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Elmhust wins CCIW Men's Lacrosse title with win over Titans

ELMHURST, Ill. – After celebrating the playing careers of the seniors from the Elmhurst Men's Lacrosse Class of 2026, the group that have won more games than any other class in program history added one more line in the record books with a title-clinching 16-12 win over Illinois Wesleyan to claim the program's first CCIW championship on Saturday afternoon.

The victory secures an undefeated run through the CCIW, clinching the conference title outright over the defending league champs.

Landon Davis got the day started with the first goal of the game just two minutes after faceoff, but the Titans would score three of the next four to take a 3-2 advantage midway through the first period.

The Jays would respond with a run of four unanswered goals, including two from Eli Spence. After a goal from Illinois Wesleyan, Spence closed out the first period by recording a hat trick with his third of the day to give the Bluejays a 7-4 edge.

Elmhurst would outscore their opponents 4-3 in the second period to stretch their lead going into halftime, with Charlie Ferree scoring twice, and Brent Diehl picking up his lone goal of the game.

The Titans scored the first two goals of the second half, cutting the Elmhurst lead to 11-9. Spence scored again to pad the Elmhurst lead, but Illinois Wesleyan rallied again, scoring the first two in the fourth quarter to make it a one-goal game, 12-11.

Over the final 11 minutes of play, Elmhurst would score four times to keep the Titans at bay, including goals from Hunter Hernandez and Joe Latorre.

Spence would finish the day with eight goals, matching his career high and coming one shy of the program single-game record. Ferree scored three goals in the win, and Hernandez tallied two goals with an assist.

With the win, the Bluejays secure the No. 1 seed in next week's CCIW Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament. Elmhurst will play host to the No. 4 seed North Central in the semifinal round on Wednesday, April 29, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The tournament championship match is scheduled for Saturday, May 2.
