Lacrosse Team Falls 9-2 at Concordia

Box Score MEQUON, Wis. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team slipped to 3-5 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference after suffering a 9-2 loss at Concordia University (Wis.).

Concordia (11-3, 6-1 MLC) scored the game's first three goals and outscored the Bluejays 7-2 in the opening half en route to the victory.

Concordia's Sam Wladyka struck less than three minutes into the contest to put the Falcons up 1-0. Derek Brueske added a goal less than a minute later to make it 2-0 and Matt Garvey fired home a goal 1:25 later to make the score 3-0.

Elmhurst (5-8 overall) jumped on the scoreboard late in the opening quarter as Drew Wassenaar scored off an Alex Opyd feed on a man-up advantage.

Peter Mortn and Shawn Teixeira scored early in the second quarter to give Concordia a 5-1 lead. The Bluejays' Jackson Mandli neted a goal with 8:56 left in the period to cut the deficit back down to three. Justin Krause and Zachary foster scored less than a minute apart later in the second quarter to put Concordia up 7-2 at the half.

Neither team generated much offense in the second half as both team's defenses clamped down. Concordia scored a goal in the third and tacked on a goal late in the fourth quarter to earn the 9-2 victory.

Concordia outshot Elmhurst 32-18 in the contest and enjoyed a 33-20 edge in ground balls. The Falcons also won 12-of-15 faceoff opportunities.

Tyler York stopped nine shots and scooped up nine ground balls while taking the loss in goal for Elmhurst.

Matt Garvey led Concordia with three points (one goal and two assists) while Derek Brueske, Danny Dahms and Justin Krause finished with a goal and an assist apiece. Thomas Mueller earned the win in net, allowing two goals and recording four saves.

Elmhurst travels to Defiance College on April 19.
