Box Score GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Elmhurst lacrosse team slipped to 0-2 following a 14-6 loss at DePauw University.
DePauw (1-1) outshot Elmhurst 45-30 in the contest and scored six consecutive goals between the second and third period to pull away for the win.
DePauw's Robert Lapp scored early in the first period to put the Tigers on top 1-0, but
Drew Wassenaar blasted home a goal five minutes later for Elmhurst to even the score at 1-1.
DePauw broke through in the second period, scoring five straight goals, including three from Lapp to build a 6-1 advantage.
Lapp struck for his fifth goal of the contests early in the third to put DePauw up 7-1.
Alex Opyd cut into the Tigers' lead just 90 seconds later after scoring off a feed from Wassenaar.
The two teams traded goals early in the third period with DePauw building a 10-4 early in the fourth quarter. Wassenaar sliced the lead back to down to five with his third goal of the contests with 9:06 left to play.
DePauw answered back with three goals in less than a minute, including two from Adam Bridges, to put the Tigers up 13-5. Bridges added his third goal of the game with 1:09 left to put DePauw up 14-5. Elmhurst's
Ben Porter fired home a goal with one minute left for the final score of the game.
DePauw won 16-of-23 faceoffs and totaled 38 ground balls to Elmhurst's 25.
Wassenaar led Elmhurst in the loss with three goals.
Brandon Bethran led Elmhurst with five ground ball and won four face-offs.
Nick Bonastia recorded 15 saves in goal for the Bluejays.
Bridges and Lapp scored six goals apiece to lead DePauw in the victory. Tom Kryspin recorded eight saves in net to earn the win.
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan on March 5.
