Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team closed out its inaugural season with a 9-8 road victory at Calvin College.
Mal Euson broke an 8-8 tie with less than 1:30 on the clock with the game-winning goal to give the Bluejays the win.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, Elmhurst rattled off three straight scores with a goal from
Alex Opyd and a pair of tallies from
Tyler Dailey.
Calvin (2-13) tied the score at 3-3 at the start of the second period, but Opyd's second goal of the game gave Elmhurst a 4-3 lead with 9:07 left.
Tyler Zaremski scored two minutes later to put the Bluejays on top 5-3. Calvin cut the lead in half two minutes later, but Elmhurst grabbed a two-goal lead at halftime on Euson's first goal of the game.
Nick Klenck scored early in the third to put the Bluejays on top by three goals. Calvin cut the lead down to two three minutes later, but Dailey's third goal of the contest gave the Bluejays an 8-5 lead early in the third period.
Calvin rallied back, scoring a goal in the third and two goals early in the fourth to even the score at eight. The game remained deadlocked for over 10 minutes before Euson scored off a feed from Opyd to lift the Bluejays to the win.
Elmhurst outshot Calvin 31-29 and won 10-of-19 faceoffs.
Dailey paced Elmhurst's attack with three goals while Opyd totaled two goals and two assists to lead the squad with four points. Euson finished with two tallies while
John Fiedler added a pair of assists.
Tyler York recorded 13 saves in the cage for the Bluejays to pick up the win.
Elmhurst closed out the season with a 4-10 overall record.
