Bluejay Lacrosse Team Upended By Carthage

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team slipped to 1-8 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference following a 26-7 loss to Carthage College at Langhorst Field.

Carthage (13-2, 8-0 MLC) built a 7-0 lead after the opening period and scored the game's first eight goals before the Bluejays got on the scoreboard.

Elmhurst (2-10 overall) played well in the second period, scoring four times. Tyler Dailey put the Bluejays on the scoreboard with an early goal to make the score 8-1 in favor of Carthage. After the Red Men padded their lead back to nine, Alex Opyd and Dailey netted back-to-back goals to pull Elmhurst to within six.

Carthage rattled off four straight goals to take a 13-3 lead before Dailey netted his third goal of the game to make the score 13-4 in favor of Carthage at the half.

The Red Men scored seven times in less than six minutes to open the third period and build a 20-4 lead. A.J. Weiger scored his first goal of the season for Elmhurst to make the score 20-5.

After Carthage scored four more goals in the third, Ben Porter struck for the Bluejays with less than a second left on the clock to make the score 24-6 after three periods.

Carthage scored twice in the fourth and Opyd netted his second goal of the game for Elmhurst to make the final score 26-7.

Dailey led the Bluejays in the loss with the hat trick while Opyd finished with two goals.

Carthage's Peter Slefinger scored five times and added three assists while Jack Meachum totaled nine points on three goals and six assists. Danny Morse, Jared Ferrell and Nick Condon scored three goals apiece for the Red Men.

Carthage outshout Elmhurst 74-20 in the contest and had a 43-17 edge in ground balls. The Red Men won 29-of-35 faceoffs.

Tyler York recorded 25 saves in net for Elmhurst.

Elmhurst hosts Defiance College on Saturday (April 27).
