Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team slipped to 2-6 on the season after suffering a 16-6 loss to Benedictine University.
Mal Euson put Elmhurst on top 1-0 midway through the opening period, scoring off a feed from
Tyler Dailey. Benedictine answered back with three straight goals to close the period, including one with seven seconds to play.
The Bluejays answered back to start the second as Dailey blasted home a goal off an assist from Euson and then
Alex Opyd scored an unassisted goal to even the score at 3-3.
Benedictine went back on top with six minutes to play in the half on a Rudy Berg goal. The Eagles scored twice in the final minute of the half to build a 6-3 lead at the half.
The Eagles dominated the second half, outscoring Elmhurst 5-1 in the third period and 5-2 in the second. After Elmhurst closed to within three goals early in the third, the Eagles scored twice in 14 seconds to open up a five-goal cushion. Benedictine closed the period with two more goals, including one in the final two seconds of play to take an 11-5 lead after three periods.
Elmhurst scored twice in the fourth period, but the Eagles closed the contest with four straight tallies to score a 16-6 victory.
Benedictine (5-6, 3-2 MLC) outshot Elmhurst 51-34, including a 30-17 edge in the second half. The Eagles controlled the faceoffs, winning 19 of the 25 attempts.
Dailey and Opyd each registered two goals apiece for the Bluejays while Euson and
Ben Porter accounted for the final two Elmhurst goals. Dailey, Euson and Tyler Zarmeski recorded an assist apiece for Elmhurst.
Connor Mersch and Tyler Buschow scored three goals apiece to lead Benedictine. Zachary MacLachlan added two goals and five assists for the Eagles while Robert Abbott totaled two goals and two assists.
Tyler York recorded 13 saves in the cage for the Bluejays.
Jake Acevedo played the game's final four minutes and also registered a save for Elmhurst.
The Bluejays host Ripon College on Saturday (April 13) at 1:00 p.m.
