Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team recorded the first win in the first-year program's history by hammering DePauw 14-4 at Langhorst Field.
Elmhurst (1-3) raced out to a quick start, scoring the game's first 10 goals before DePauw (0-6) cracked the scoreboard. The Bluejays led 11-1 at the half en route to the 10-goal victory.
Mal Euson,
Tyler Zaremski and
John Fiedler scored three goals apiece to lead the Bluejays in the victory.
Alex Opyd,
Tyler Zaremski and
Nick Klenck scored two goals each while
Ben Porter and
Tyler Dailey also found the back of the net for the Bluejays. Zaremski added a team-leading two assists to total five points while Klenk, Opyd and Dailey and
Ben Porter also registered assists for the Bluejays.
Opyd scored the game's first goal just 4:28 into the contest to put Elmhurst on top 1-0. Euson made it 2-0 less than a minute and a half later. Klenk tacked on a goal with 2:54 left on the clock and Zaremski struck with 11 seconds remaining in the opening period to put the Bluejays on top 4-0 after one period.
The Bluejays pulled away in the second, scoring early and often. Euson, Zaremski, Fiedler, Porter, Klenck and Dailey all tallied goals to give the Bluejays a 10-0 lead. Zaremski scored twice in the period to complete his second hat trick in three games. DePauw cracked the scoreboard with 3:28 left in the half on Cameron Combs' goal. The Bluejays led 11-1 at the break on Opyd's second goal of the game.
DePauw scored three straight times to open the third period, including two goals on man-up advantages. Elmhurst ended the Tiger's rally when Fiedler scored while the Bluejays were a man down. Euson scored with 15 seconds left in the third to record the hat trick while Fiedler tacked on his third goal in the fourth period to make the final score 14-4.
Elmhurst outshot DePauw 42-24 and held a 34-31 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays turned the ball over a season low 21 times.
Tyler York manned the cage for the Bluejays and picked up his first win of the season. He allowed just four goals while recording 11 saves and three ground balls.
Elmhurst travels to M.S.O.E. on Wednesday.
