Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team suffered its third straight defeat to start the 2013 season, falling 13-1 to the College of Mount St. Joseph at Langhorst Field.
Mount St. Joseph (4-3, 2-0 MLC) scored on their first two possessions to grab a quick 2-0 lead. The Lions made it 3-0 midway through the opening period before the Bluejays cracked the scoreboard.
Tyler Dailey spun his way around a defender and fired the ball past Mount St. Joseph goalie Joe Illencik to cut the Lions' lead dow to just two.
Mount St. Joseph scored with two seconds left in the opening period and then tacked on three second period goals to lead 7-1 at halftime. The Lions added three goals in the third and three more in the fourth to earn the 13-1 victory.
Mount St. Joseph outshot Elmhurst 44-11 in the contest and the Lions held a 29-19 edge in ground balls. The Lions also controlled the faceoff dot, winning 12-of-17 in the contest.
Elmhurst struggled to maintain possession, turning the ball over 21 times in the contest.
Elmhurst struggled to stop Mount St. Joseph's Ryan Gallagher and Patrick McClanahan. Gallagher finished with six goals and an assist while McClanahan added two goals, an assist, and eight ground balls. Will McClanahan finished with two goals and four assists for the Lions
Illencik earned the win in net for Mount St. Joseph, allowing one goal while recording five saves. Elmhurst's
Tyler York recorded 21 saves and seven ground balls while taking the loss in net.
Elmhurst hosts DePauw University on Monday (March 25) at 3:00 p.m.
