WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst wrestling team dropped a CCIW dual meet to Wheaton College, falling 31-16 to the Thunder.
Justin Hames,
Jimmy McAuliffe and
Mike Huck accounted for the three Elmhurst (2-6) wins in the dual meet.
Wheaton jumped out to an early lead after Anthony Zamara defeated Elmhurst's
Eric English 15-6 at 125 pounds. Hames pulled Elmhurst even at 133 pounds scoring a 12-3 major decision over Giovany Armira. Ethan Harsted put the Thunder in front 9-4 after scoring a 22-6 technical fall over Elmhurst's
Joe Rongaus at 141 pounds. McAuliffe gave Elmhurst a brief lead in the dual by pinning Andrew Harrell in the second period at 149 pounds.
Caele Manley put the Thunder back up at 13-10 after scoring an 11-3 major decision over
Malik Daghash at 157 pounds. The Bluejays reclaimed the dual lead at 16-13 after
Mike Huck pinned Charles Owens in 4:41 at 165 pounds.
Wheaton won the final four matches to take the dual. Hunter Harrison edged
Victor Keane 2-0 at 174 pounds. Isaac Odell followed win a first-round pin of
Dominic Gallo at 184 pounds. Wheaton's Natan Jara pinned
Victor Vargas at 197 pounds and the Thunder's Grant Miller finished the dual with a 13-6 win over
Roberto Pena at 285 pounds.
Elmhurst will compete at Wheaton's Pete Wilson Invitational on January 31-February 1.
