ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst wrestling team evened its dual record at 1-1 for the season by defeating the University of Chicago 33-19 at R.A. Faganel Hall.
Chicago (0-1) forfeited matches to the Bluejays at the 125, 141 and 174 pound weight classes to account for 18 points.
Starting with a 6-0 lead,
Josh Lawson added to the Bluejays' advantage by scoring an 11-6 win over Griffin Seyfried at 133 pounds. Following a forfeit at 141 pounds,
Jimmy McAuliffe pinned Chicago's Grant Morrison in the third period (6:14) to put the Bluejays in front 21-0.
Chicago answered back with consecutive wins at 157 and 165 pounds. Steve Bonsall pinned Elmhurst's
Jose Lopez in the first period at 157 and Will Britain pinned the Bluejays'
Mike Huck late in the third period at 165 to cut Elmhurst's dual lead down to 21-12.
Elmhurst added six points to its lead with a forfeit win at 174 pounds, but Chicago's Ben Sarasin scored a 13-5 major decision over Elmhurst's
Dominic Gallo at 184 pounds.
Victor Vargas secured the dual meet win for the Bluejays by pinning Chicago's Trent Williams in the third period (5:54). Chicago's Will Hare closed the dual with a 3-0 win over
Karim Fuentes.
