RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team opened the 2013 season by shutting out Dominican University 2-0.

The Bluejays jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Kristie Waugh scored 10:13 into the match off of an Emily Heimerdinger assist. The Bluejays tacked on an insurance goal in the second half on Jackie Belmonte's unassisted strike in the 61st minute.

Elmhurst dominated the pace of the game, outshooting Dominican 37-11 in the contest.

Elmhurst goalkeepers Olivia Schoch and Emily Gordon combined for the shutout. Schoch stopped three shots in the first half while Gordon recorded two saves while playing the game's final 45 minutes.

Dominican keeper Sara Stepanovich recorded 16 saves in the loss.

Elmhurst hosts Greenville College on Monday, September 2.
