ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's soccer team opened conference play with a 2-0 shutout victory over Augustana College on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Langhorst Field.
With a scoreless first half the Bluejays generated scoring opportunities taking three shots. Elmhurst (7-2-0, 1-0-0 CCIW) broke through at 65:31 when Lauren Nevins scored her first goal of the match sparking the offensive power. Just over five minutes later, the Bluejays cleared an Augustana corner kick, allowing Ailani Zires to send the ball forward from the left side of midfield. Nevins met the pass, allowing her to drive a goal in at 70:45 to give Elmhurst a 2-0 lead.
Elmhurst outshot Augustana (3-3-2, 0-1-0 CCIW) 9-4 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Nevins led the Bluejays with four shots, including both of her goals. Nora Simon put her lone shot on goal, while Alaina Clark, Emily Herlihy, Izzy Vargas and Martyna Bogaczewicz each recorded a shot. Erin Fitzharris made two saves in 90 minutes to preserve the shutout.
Up Next: Elmhurst travels to Lansing, Mich., to face Great Lakes Christian College on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Henderson Field.
