ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's soccer team fell to Alma College 1-0 on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Langhorst Field. Alma secured the win over Elmhurst late in the second half after a scoreless first half.
Elmhurst (6-2-0) created chances throughout the match, Natalie Workman took the first opportunity for the Bluejays with a shot at 25:33, while Lauren Nevins struck the crossbar minutes later. The Bluejays entered halftime tied 0-0 after Katelyn Guolla put a shot on goal in the 43rd minute.
The Bluejays pressed forward after the break, recording seven of their 10 shots in the second half. Angie Lopez, Ellie Muscarello and Sophia Burkhead each put a shot on goal, while Nora Simon had an attempt blocked by an Alma defender.
Alma's Ava Hoffman scored at 86:34 pushing the Scots (7-0-1) ahead 1-0. Elmhurst nearly answered, with a shot by Kelli Coughlin's with contact from the crossbar and a scramble from goalkeepers hands before it was kicked away in the 89th minute.
Elmhurst outshot Alma 10-3, with five shots on goal. Goalkeeper Erin Fitzharris secured one save for the Bluejays.
