Bluejays Fall in Season Finale at Illinois Wesleyan

Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College football team fell short in its upset bid at Illinois Wesleyan, falling 24-10 to the Titans.

After pulling to within four points of the Titans in the third quarter, a pair of second-half turnovers plagued the Bluejays as the Titans pulled away for the 14-point victory.

Illinois Wesleyan (9-1, 6-1 CCIW) jumped on the scoreboard first after capitalizing on an Elmhurst interception. Taking over at the Bluejays' 29-yard line, the Titans took a 7-0 lead after Rob Gallik connected with Tate Musselman on a five-yard touchdown pass.

Elmhurst answered back immediately, driving 75 yards over 14 plays and scoring on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Joe Camiliere to Chase Hamby.

Illinois Wesleyan grabbed a 14-7 lead late in the second quarter after the Titans drove 62 yards in just five plays. Gallik capped the drive with a 13-yard strike to Musselman. The Titans led 14-7 at the half.

Elmhurst (4-6, 3-4 CCIW) cut into the lead early in the third quarter, driving to the Titans' seven-yard line before settling for a 27-yard field goal from David Tomis.

After the Bluejays' defense forced the Titans into a three-and-out on the following possession, the Bluejays took over near midfeld and drove to the Titan's 18 yard line. Facing a third and long, Camiliere was sacked and stripped of the football with the Titans recovering at their own 27-yard line.

Illinois Weseyan took advantage of the turnover, pushing the ball down to the Bluejays' nine-yard line before settling for a26-yard field goal from Michael Kelly to make the score 17-10.

Elmhurst's offense got rolling again, driving into Illinois Wesleyan territory before Josh Williams was stripped of the football at the Titans' 27-yard line with IWU recovering the loose ball.

The Titans' offense stalled but IWU pinned Elmhurst inside their own 10-yard line. Facing a fourth-and-one from their own 16-yard line with less than four minutes to play, the Bluejays were stopped on fourth down, giving the ball back to the Titans at the Elmhurst 16-yard line.

Three plays later, Devonte Jones scored on a nine-yard run for the game's final score.

Elmhurst outgained the Titans 279-278 in the contest. The Bluejays rushed for 118 yards and passed for 161 while the Titans rushed for 175 yards and passed for 103.

Williams led Elmhurst's ground attack, rushing 25 times for 128 yards. Williams was also the Bluejays' leading receiver, catching six passes for 42 yards. Camiliere completed 18-of-25 passes for 161 yards with a touchdown and interception.

Jones led the Titans on the ground with 99 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Gallik finished 15-of-22 through the air for 103 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

George DeMaria led Elmhurst's defense in the loss with eight tackles, including two tackles for loss. Charlie Roberts added six tackles and also forced a fumble for the Bluejays.
