Bluejays Shut Out By Marian

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's soccer team slipped to 7-4 overall after suffering a 1-0 shutout loss to Marian University (Wis.).

Elmhurst outshot Marian 19-4, but the Sabres scored the game's only goal in the 38th minute to earn the victory.

Marian (4-6) nearly scored six minutes into the game, but Brittany Syms' shot kissed off the far post and bounced back out. Elmhurst's best scoring chance came in the 37th minute after Marian was whistled for a foul just outside the top of the box. Jackie Belmonte bent her free kick attempt over the wall of Marian defenders, but the shot hit the crossbar.

Leisa Conn broke the scoreless tie in the 38th minute when her sharp-angled shot was perfectly placed into the upper left corner of the net.

Elmhurst outshot Marian 10-1 in the second half, but Sabres goalkeeper Caitlyn Rosenberger turned away all seven shots she faced in the half. Rosenberger finished with nine saves on the night to earn the shutout.

Emily Gordon took the loss in net for the Bluejays. She allowed one goal and recorded one save.

Elmhurst resumes CCIW play on Friday, October 11, by hosting Wheaton College at 7:00 p.m.
