Box Score WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst football team stayed right with 13th-ranked Wheaton College for three quarters, before falling 28-3 to the Thunder.
Elmhurst (1-5, 0-3 CCIW) battled with Wheaton (6-0, 3-0 CCIW) for the opening half, limiting the Thunder's high-powered offense to just one touchdown.
Wheaton got on the scoreboard midway through the opening quarter, driving 68 yards in six plays. The Thunder went on top on a four-yard keeper run from Jordan Roberts.
Elmhurst mounted a drive early in the second quarter but came up empty. Starting at their own 14-yard line, Elmhurst drove to the Wheaton 25-yard line. The Bluejays elected to go for the first down on a fourth-and-three, but were dropped for a loss by Wheaton.
After the Bluejays' defense forced Wheaton to punt, Elmhurst strung together a 13-play drive that started from their own two-yard line. The Bluejays drove to the Thunder 30-yard line, but were again stopped by the Thunder on fourth down. The Bluejays entered the locker room trailing 7-0.
Wheaton pulled off a successful on-side kick to start the second half, but the Bluejays' ended the Thunder's scoring threat with a turnover.

Elmhurst's offense went three-and-out on the ensuing possession, but the Bluejays' defense forced the Thunder into a three-and-out following the Elmhurst punt.
Starting at their own 36-yard line, the Bluejays drove down to the Wheaton 22-yard line and got on the scoreboard on
David Tomis' 39-yard field goal.
Wheaton's offense got rolling following the Elmhurst field goal. The Thunder scored on their next three possessions en route to the 28-3 win.
Following the field goal, the Thunder marched 70 yards in seven plays with Jesse Geary capping the drive with a five-yard touchdown run. After a three-and-out from the Bluejays, Wheaton drove 73 yards and took a 21-3 lead on a one-yard plunge from Roberts.
After Elmhurst was forced to punt again, the Thunder needed just three plays to find the end zone as Roberts scored his third touchdown of the game with a 35-yard scamper.
Elmhurst managed just 82 yards of offense in the second half, including just 35 yards after Tomis' field goal. The Bluejays finished the contest with 249 yards of total offense, with 150 coming on the ground. Wheaton totaled 413 yards of offense including 241 in game's final 30 minutes. The Thunder rushed for 150 yards and passed for 263 yards.
Garrett Claxon led the Bluejays on the ground, carrying nine times for 52 yards.
Josh Williams rushed 17 times for 52 yards for Elmhurst.
Joe Camiliere finished 8-of-24 through the air for 99 yards. Claxon was also the Bluejays' top receiver, hauling in a pair of passes for 61 yards.
Roberts led the Thunder on the ground with 62 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries. He also completed 21-of-29 pass attempts for 263 yards.
Wills Massie led the Bluejays' defense with six tackles, including two tackles for loss. Brett Anderson and Adam Dansdill led the Thunder with nine tackles apiece.
Elmhurst hosts Millikin University next Saturday, October 26.
