Bluejays Battle #19 North Park to 1-1 Draw

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team battled 19th-ranked North Park to a 1-1 tie in double overtime to remain unbeaten in CCIW play.

Elmhurst (8-2-3, 1-0-2 in the CCIW) jumped on the scoreboard early. Jeff Kading's free kick from 35 yards out was headed by Austin Haas and then knocked into the back of the net by Mikey Emig to give Elmhurst a 1-0 lead just 2:34 into the game.

Emig nearly made it 2-0 later in the half, by North Park keeper Wesley Woodley made a sliding break-up to prevent Emig from a breakaway goal.

The Bluejays held the lead until the 36th minute when North Park scored the equalizer. North Park (9-3-2, 2-0-1 CCIW) caught the Bluejays off balanced on a free kick and Jonas Pettersson's shot bounced off the goal post and into the net.

Neither team was able to score in the second period sending the game into overtime. Both teams had good looks in the second overtime. Woodley had to make another sliding play to prevent a breakaway chance for Andrew Moore. North Park had a shot hit off the cross bar of the football uprights later in the extra period.

North Park had a slight 15-12 edge in shots, but both teams put just three shots on goal.

John Reglin stopped a pair of shots in overtime for the Bluejays while Woodley finished with two saves for the VIkings.

Elmhurst hosts Millikin University on Saturday, October 19.
