OAK BROOK, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team closed out their 2012 fall season by placing sixth at the CCIW Championship.
Elmhurst totaled 14 points to place sixth. Wheaton College won the team title with 75 points while Augustana took second (49) points. Carthage (37), Illinois Wesleyan (29), and North Central (21) finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
Annie Duggan was the top finisher for the Bluejays, taking home third place at the No. 1 singles flight. Duggan opened play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over North Central's Jenny Velasquez before falling 7-5, 6-1 to Wheaton's Sarah Ray in the semifinals.
Duggan bounced back from the loss to topple Illinois Wesleyan's Andrea Kerwin 8-6 in the consolation semifinals. In the third place match, Duggan upended Carthage's Bari Reynolds 9-7.
At No. 3 singles,
Lauren Kuehn scored a point with an 8-4 playback win over Millikin's Ashlee Colby. Ragan Wilon added a consolation win over Millikin's Kelly Commons at No. 4 singles while
Brittany Kuehn toppled Millikin's Madeline Knott 8-1 in the consolation round of No. 5 singles. Jennifer Guether added an 8-0 consolation round win over Millikin's Tiara Crusoe at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Elmhurst's team of
Nicole Darga and
Brittany Kuehn scored an 8-1 consolation win at No. 1 doubles over Millikin's Cydney Boyd and Commons.
At No. 2 doubles, Duggan and
Lauren Kuehn downed Augustana's Miranda Pence and Chelsea Lavin 9-7 in the consolation semifinals. The duo dropped the third place match to Illinois Wesleyan's Lauren Drawbridge and Alissa Goetz by an 8-4 score.
At No. 3 doubles, Wilson and Guenther earned a consolation point with an 8-0 win over Millikin's Knott and Crusoe.
