ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's tennis team opened CCIW play on Saturday (Sept. 6), falling 7-0 to Wheaton College at the Lester Brune Tennis Courts.
The Thunder (3-0, 1-0 CCIW) swept all three doubles contests to secure the opening point. Anna Sophia Stone and Annabeth Webb dropped a 6-0 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Olivia Grabowski and Olivia Hernandez fell 6-0 at No. 2. Annelise Alvarenga and Asma Hasan also came up short at No. 3 doubles by a 6-0 score.
In singles action, Wheaton completed the sweep by taking all six matches. Stone battled at the top of the lineup before falling 6-0, 6-0 to Madeline Gentry. Webb fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Hernandez dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 3. Grabowski came up short 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, Hasan fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Alvarenga rounded out the lineup with a 6-1, 6-0 setback at No. 6 singles.
With the loss, the Bluejays slipped to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
