Men's Soccer Team Comes Up Short Against North Park

Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - After taking a 1-0 lead, the Elmhurst men's soccer team surrendered five unanswered goals and fell 5-1 at North Park University.

With the loss, the Bluejays fell to 8-8 on the season and were left still searching for their first CCIW win (0-4). North Park upped its record to 8-2-4 overall and 2-0-2 in league play.

Elmhurst battled the rain and cold to jump on the scoreboard first. Andrew Witzofsky knocked home a Mikey Emig shot into the upper left corner of the net to put the Bluejays on top in the 31st minute. 

North Park evened the score just before the half when Fredrik Greiff scored off of an Oskar Joelsson assist in the 44th minute.

The second half belonged to the Vikings as North Park outshot Elmhurst 11-3 and scored four times. Jonas Pettersson put the Vikings on top in the 61st minute with a penalty kick goal. Pettersson blasted home a 30-yard strike six minutes later to pad the Viking's advantage to 3-1.

North Park tacked on a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes as Filip Lindmark scored in the 81st minute and Pettersson completed the hat trick with a goal in the 85th minute. Pettersson finished with seven points to lead the Vikings in the win.

North Park finished the game with a 21-8 shots advantage while Elmhurst had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

John Reglin took the loss in net for the Bluejays, allowing five goals while stopping seven shots. Tim Ahlberg earned the win for the Vikings with three saves and one goal allowed.

Elmhurst plays at Millikin University on Saturday (October 20).
