CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's track and field team opened the 2012 indoor season by posting a 7-3 mark while competing at the University of Chicago Duals.
Elmhurst scored wins over Illinois Institute of Technology (61-36), Illinois-Chicago (63-5), Loyola (53-25), North Park (54-47), Northwestern Track Club (61-58), Robert Morris (65-0), and Roosevelt (65-8). The Bluejays dropped duals to Beloit (72-55), St. Ambrose (81-42), and Chicago (65-8).
Elmhurst had a strong showing in the sprint events. The Bluejays' 4x400 relay squad of
Jake Austin,
Kurt Kibler,
Kyle Kibler, and
Mark D'Angelo turned in a first-place performance with a race-winning time of 3:30.95. D'Angelo also won the 400-meters by finishing the event in 52.34 seconds.
Elmhurst scored three top-10 finishes in the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. In the 55-meters,
Jon Janus was the top finisher, placing fifth in 6.81 seconds.
Kurt Kibler (6.86 seconds) finished seventh while D'Angelo finished right behind in eighth-place (6.90 seconds).
Kurt Kibler finished the 200-meters in 23.91 seconds, good for fifth place while Janus finished sixth in 23.96 seconds.
Kyle Kibler completed the race in 25.65 seconds to finish in ninth-place.
In the distance events,
Jake Austin scored a second-place finish in the mile run, finishing the race in 4:23.33.
Will Cross added a 10th-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:40.23.
Doug Vrchota added a seventh-place finish in the 3,000 meters (9:26.82).
Elmhurst also recorded two top finishes in the field events, Janus placed third in the long jump with a mark of 18-10.5 while
Toby Glenn placed seventh in the shot put, recording a toss of 41-1.
