ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College wrestling team upped its dual meet record to 4-0 after toppling the University of Chicago 39-6 at R.A. Faganel Hall.

Elmhurst, ranked 12th in the latest NWCA Division III poll, won eight of the 10 matches, including four by pinfall.

Mark Johnson opened the dual with a 5-0 victory over the Maroons' Willie Long at 125 pounds. Dalton Bullard followed with a win at 133 pounds for the Bluejays. Bullard pinned Frankie Acosta in 2:52 to give Elmhurst a 9-0 cushion in the dual. Jake Denhof added a 10-2 major decision over Chicago's Jacob Smith at 141 pounds.

Ryan Earley scored a 12-4 major decision over Joseph Ruettiger at 149 pounds to put Elmhurst on top 17-0. Chicago got on the scoreboard at 157 pounds when Devon Range toppled Mike Grice 6-0. James Layton added a win for the Maroons at 165 pounds, scoring a 4-3 victory over Elmhurst's Yousef Al-Ghoul.

Danny Balderas, ranked fourth in the latest NWCA individual rankings, improved to 8-1 on the season with a 14-6 major decision over Joshua Lowy at 174 pounds. At 184 pounds, Elmhurst's Joe Rau made short work of Sam Pennisi at 184 pounds. Rau, ranked third in the latest NWCA rankings, pinned Pennisi in 1:37.

Danny Vargas put Elmhurst up 33-6 at 197 pounds by pinning Mario Palmisano in 2:16. Brian Brooks closed out the dual with Elmhurst's final win by fall. Brooks needed just 27 seconds to pin Jeff Tyburski at 285 pounds.


Elmhurst travels to Lakeland College for a dual meet on December 8.
