Women's Soccer All-Conference Team
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Elmhurst women's soccer coach
Paul Webster has been named the CCIW's Coach of the Year while four Bluejays have earned all-conference honors.
Amy Baschen earned first-team all-conference honors while
Stephanie Thomson,
Katie Baschen, and
Valerie Wesley were named to the all-conference team's second team.
Amy Baschen, a junior from Downers Grove South, earned first-team honors at forward after leading the Bluejays' offensive attack in 2011. Baschen scored a team-leading 11 goals and totaled six assists to lead the squad in total points (28). Five of her 11 goals were game-winning scores. She saved some of her best performances for CCIW opponents, ranking fourth in the league in goals scored (four) and second in game-winning goals (two).
Thomson, a senior from Palatine High School, garnered the second all-conference honor of her career after earning first-team honors in 2009. Thomson earned second-team honors at defender after helping to anchor an Elmhurst defense that allowed only 13 goals for the entire season. Elmhurst limited opponents to a 0.70 goals against average. The Bluejays' defense ranked second in the CCIW, allowing just six goals in seven conference contests.
Katie Baschen, a junior from Downers Grove South, earned the first all-conference honor of her career at midfielder. Baschen finished the 2011 season with two goals, two assists, and six points. Baschen served as anchor for the Bluejays in the middle of the field, starting all 18 games and helping Elmhurst outscore its opponents 48-13.
Wesley, a senior from Academy of Our Lady of Peace, earned her first all-conference honor of her career at forward. Wesley ranked second on the squad in goals scored (nine) and total points (26) while leading the team in assists (eight). She also ranked second on the team in game-winning goals (four). In CCIW play, she ranked eighth in the league in points (seven) while finishing fourth in assists (three).
Webster became the first women's soccer coach in Elmhurst history to be named the league's Coach of the Year. He guided Elmhurst to an impressive 13-4-1 overall record and the team's first-ever national ranking. Elmhurst finished the CCIW season in third place, qualifying for the CCIW Tournament for the first time since the 2003 season. The Bluejays also handed Wheaton College its first CCIW loss since the 2009 season.
