Elmhurst Secures Commanding 3–1 Win Over Carthage

Results

ELMHURST, Ill. — The Elmhurst University women's soccer team added to its win total in style Saturday afternoon, defeating Carthage 3–1 at Langhorst Field behind a balanced offensive effort and another strong showing from goalkeeper Erin Fitzharris.

The Blue Jays (11-5-2, 2-4-1 CCIW) struck first in the 33rd minute when Emily Herlihy found the back of the net giving Elmhurst the early edge and energizing a great crowd at Langhorst Field on a beautiful fall day. Elmhurst kept pressing before halftime, out-shooting Carthage 7-5 through the opening period and creating consistent chances from set pieces, including four first-half corners.

After the break, Elmhurst's attack kept rolling. Just six minutes into the second half, senior midfielder Courtney Conlon doubled the lead at 51:01, finishing cleanly off a feed from Kelli Coughlin to make it 2–0. Carthage managed to pull one back in the 68th minute on a goal from Eve Hockerman, but the Blue Jays responded immediately.

In the 73rd minute, Lauren Nevins put the match out of reach, scoring her team-leading 12th goal of the season off assists from Conlon and Ellie Muscarello to restore a two-goal cushion and seal the 3–1 victory.

Fitzharris anchored the back line with five saves across 90 minutes, including several key stops in the first half to maintain the early advantage. Elmhurst finished with a 12–10 edge in shots (8–6 on goal) and won the corner-kick battle 6–1.
