Capital One Academic All-America Teams
ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst College women's soccer player
Heather De Moss has been named a Capital One Academic All-American.
De Moss was one of three midfielders named to the 10-player NCAA Division III Academic All-American Third-Team.
A first-team academic all-district selection, De Moss finished the 2011 season with career highs in goals scored (six), assists (four) and total points (16). She ranked third on the squad in goals scored and finished fourth on the team in assists and total points. A nursing major, De Moss maintains a 3.95 grade-point average.
She helped the Bluejays finish the season with a 13-4-1 overall record and earn their first-ever national ranking in
D3soccer.com's poll. The Bluejays also qualified for the CCIW Tournament for the first time since the 2003 season.
De Moss is the 30th overall Elmhurst student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors. She is the 23rd Bluejay to achieve the honor since the 2000-01 season and just the third Elmhurst women's soccer player to achieve the distinction.
The Capital One Academic All-America teams are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA has doubled the amount of student-athletes honored by separating the former College Division (comprised of all non-Division I schools) into separate Divisions for NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants. The new College Division combines NAIA, Canadian, and two-year institutions.
