ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's soccer team scored three times in the opening half en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over Millikin University at Berens Park.
Elmhurst (12-3-1, 3-2-1 CCIW) jumped on the scoreboard in the 15th minute when
Heather De Moss found the back of the net. De Moss fed
Amy Baschen in the middle and Baschen headed it right back to De Moss on a give-and-go. De Moss beat Millikin keeper Kyli Humm to put the Bluejay on top 1-0.
Baschen scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 26th minute to give Elmhurst a two-goal cushion.
Valerie Wesley slipped a pass through the Millikin defense and found Baschen for an open look to set up the goal.
Less than a minute later, the Bluejays took a 3-0 advantage when Wesley fed
Shannon Pimmel from outside the top of the box. Pimmel blasted home a goal into the upper corner from 25 yards out to account for the game's final goal.
Elmhurst outshot Millikin 16-7 in the contest.
Maddie Fitzpatrick recorded a shutout in goal for the Bluejays by stopping all three shots she faced. Humm stopped five shots in the opening half for Millikin and Natalie Robertaccio stopped two in the second half.
The Bluejays close out the regular season on Saturday (October 29) by traveling to Augustana College. A win for Elmhurst would clinch a spot in the CCIW Tournament.
