NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Elmhurst College's
Valerie Wesley and
Maddie Fitzpatrick were named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Women's Soccer Players of the Week.
Wesley was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Fitzpatrick took home Defensive Player of the Week Honors.
Wesley, a senior forward for the Bluejays, had a goal and an assist during Elmhurst's 2-1 double overtime win over fourth-ranked and previously unbeaten Wheaton College on Saturday. Wesley tallied an assist on the game-tying goal with just two minutes left in regulation. She scored the game-winning goal less than two minutes into the second overtime. She is the team's leader in points (23) and assists (six) and is the squad's co-leader in goals scored (nine).
Fitzpatrick, a freshman goalkeeper, registered a season and career-high 14 saves in net for the Bluejays during the team's win over Wheaton on Saturday. After allowing a goal in the 29th minute, Fitzpatrick recorded 11 consecutive saves, keeping Wheaton off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game and allowing the Bluejays to rally for the win. Fitzpatrick has an 11-3-1 record in net this season as a starter.
