Women's Soccer Squad Edges Chapman

ELMHURST, Ill. -
Amy Baschen scored the game-winning goal and added two assists to help lift the Elmhurst College women's soccer team to a 4-3 victory over Chapman University at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst (9-3-0) jumped on the scoreboard twice in the game's first 13 minutes only to see Chapman (5-8-1) battle back to tie the score at 2-2. The Bluejays struck first in the 10th minute when Valerie Wesley headed home her seventh goal of the season off of a corner kick from Baschen.

A little more than two minutes later, the Bluejays made it 2-0 when Wesley sent a cross in front of the net to a wide-open Morgan Geimer. Geimer steered the ball into the back of the net to put Elmhurst up 2-0.

Elmhurst's two goal lead lasted exactly 11 seconds. On the restart, Chapman's Aimee Evans raced past the Elmhurst defense and fired the ball into the back of the net to slice the Bluejays' lead in half. Val Sobol scored the equalizer for Chapman in the 32nd minute after she collected Samantha Andre's pass and found herself one-on-one with Elmhurst goalkeeper Maddie Fitzpatrick. Sobol found the back of th net to knot the score at 2-2.

Elmhurst quickly retook the lead in the 40th minute when Baschen sent a pass through the box to an open Kylie McArthur. McArthur blasted the ball into the corner of the net to give Elmhurst a 3-2 advantage.

The Bluejays tacked on a goal in the 61st minute of the second half when Baschen drilled a free kick from 30 yards out into the upper half of the net to give Elmhurst a 4-2 cushion.

Chapman sliced the lead in half in the 72nd minute on Camy Jun's goal off of a Jordan Royer assist.

Elmhurst's defense was able to keep Chapman off the scoreboard for the final 18 minutes to preserve the victory.

Both teams attempted 15 shots in the match. Fitzpatrick earned the win in goal for Elmhurst, allowing three goals while recording five saves. Rissa Anderson took the loss in net for the Panthers, surrendering four goals while stopping seven shots.
