ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team kicked off the CCIW portion of its schedule by playing 20th-ranked North Park University to a scoreless 0-0 draw at Berens Park.
Playing a defensive-minded game, the Bluejays were held to eight shots, but Elmhurst put six of its eight shots on goal. North Park (5-0-5) totaled 20 shots, but only eight shots on goal.
Both teams had chances to score throughout the contest. North Park had a free kick from just outside the box in the opening half, but Elmhurst keeper
John Reglin made a sprawling save to keep the Vikings off the scoreboard.
Elmhurst (4-4-3) had a golden opportunity in the second half but Tim Ahlberg made a point-blank save on
Keith Thurman's header.
The Vikings had a chance in the closing seconds of regulation, with a scrum in front of the net after a corner kick, but Elmhurst's defense leared the ball to send the game to overtime.
Reglin totaled eight saves in goals for Elmhurst while Ahlberg stopped six shots in net for the Vikings.
Elmhurst travels to Carthage College next Saturday (October 8).
