Bluejay Wrestlers Win Al Hanke Invitational

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College wrestling team, ranked eighth in the latest NWCA Division III poll, captured its second straight team title at the 28th Annual Al Hanke Wrestling Invitational.

The Bluejays totaled 156 points while Harper College placed second with 141.5 points Wabash College totaled 93.5 points to take third. Four Bluejays captured individual titles. 

Charlie Curran posted a 4-0 record at 149 pounds while capturing the individual title and being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler. Curran topples Harper's Nate Stadeker 12-6 in the championship match.

Frank Savegnago posted a 4-0 record while winning the individual title at 174 pounds. Savegnago defeated Harper's Jordan Bakley 8-2 in the championship match.

Mark Corsello ranked second in the latest NWCA poll, won his second straight individual title at 285 pounds by posting a 5-0 mark. Corsello won the individual title after Lakeland's Adam Sutter was injured in the championship match and was unable to continue. 

Ben Salabura finished the tournament with a 4-0 record and won the individual title at 133 pounds while competing as an individual. Salabura defeated teammate Jake Denhof 9-5 in the championship match. Denhof finished in second place with a 2-1 record.

Ryan Earley added a second place finish at 141 pounds after falling to Wabash College's Jake Strausbaugh 8-5 in the championship match. 

Dan Hamilton placed second at 157 pounds. Hamilton advanced to the championship match before being forced to withdraw with an injury.

Joe Rau added a second-place finish at 197 pounds. Rau posted a 3-1 record and fell 15-7 to Chicago's Troy Carlson in the championship match.

Jack Lewis (165 pounds), Jack Lewis (125 pounds), andLarry Baca (141 pounds) added third-place finishes for the Bluejays. Mike Grice (141 pounds), and Jason Cleary (174 pounds) finished fourth in their respective weight classes. 

Ethan Moes(133 pounds) and Stu Fisher (197 pounds) scored fifith-place finishes, while Jon Nelson (197 pounds) and Mike McNeil (184 pounds) added sixth-place finishes for the Bluejays.

Elmhurst hosts North Central College in a CCIW dual on Wednesday, January 20.
