ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team ran its record to 2-0 after hammering Benedictine University 7-1.
Jon Brehm (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), Keith Thurman (Villa Park/Willowbrook) and Matt Sterner (Naperville/Central) all scored two goals apiece to pace the Bluejays in the win.
Brehm gave Elmhurst a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute with his second goal of the season off a Jacob Misel (Ankeny, Iowa/H.S.) assist. Elmhurst led 1-0 at halftime.
The Bluejays exploded for six goals in the second half. Brehm scored first in the 58th minute on a penalty kick. Thurman made it 3-0 in the 61st minute with his first goal of the season off an assist from Jake Pahr (Cary/Cary-Grove). Thurman scored in the 70th minute to put the Bluejays up 4-0. Sterner followed with back-to-back unassisted goals to give Elmhurst a 6-0 lead. Brian McMahon (St. Charles/St. Francis) added a goal in the 80th minute to give the Bluejays a 7-0 advantage.
Benedictine's Leo Lopez scored in the 89th minute to break the shutout.
Sebastian Domczewski (Des Plaines/St. Viator) played 75 minutes in goal, recording two saves for Elmhurst. Daren Scarberry (Grove City, Ohio/H.S.) played the final 15 minutes and allowed one goal while making one save.
Elmhurst plays at the Tri-State University Tournament on September 6-7.
