HUNTLEY, Ill. - Elmhurst University women's golf turned in a strong showing at the Judson Invitational, finishing second out of 14 teams with a team score of 344 at Pinecrest Golf Club in Huntley, Ill.
The Bluejays trailed only host Judson, which captured the team title with a score of 335.
Leading the way for Elmhurst was Laine Leonard, who carded an 83 to tie for fifth place overall in the 83-golfer field. Emily Roberts followed closely behind with an 85 to share ninth place, while Ava Sweeten turned in an 87 to tie for 12th. Elise Nelson added a round of 89 to place in a tie for 19th and round out Elmhurst's scoring four.
Individually, junior Magen Laas shot a 91 to finish tied for 27th, while Hailey Vogt posted a 96 to tie for 37th. Jessica Perns added a 100 to place 50th, and Ava Ferri recorded a 109 to tie for 58th.
Judson's Isabell Burnett earned medalist honors with a 77, while Leonard's top-five finish helped pace Elmhurst to its second consecutive runner-up team finish to open the season.
The Bluejays return to the course on September 7-8 at the Marian Invitational.
