Jays Have Strong Showing at Chicagoland Championships

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's track and field team delivered many PR's and top finishes at the Chicagoland Championships at Langhorst Field this past Thursday-Saturday, April 3-5. 
 

The men's track and field team delivered an unforgettable performance at this weekend's invitational, setting numerous personal records (PRs) and showcasing incredible growth across events. From sprints to long-distance runs and field events.

In the 100m dash, Cristian Doyle led the charge with a blazing time of 11.12, earning a new PR. His teammates followed suit with impressive PRs of their own: Jaedon Thompson clocked 11.51, Shawn Woodall finished in 11.67, Gino Orestano posted a time of 12.03, Braxton Mitchell ran 12.06, and Harry Llobrera wrapped up the group with 12.66.

Doyle continued his exceptional day in the 200m dash, where he set another PR of 22.97. In the 400m, Zaiden Smith showed incredible endurance, setting a new PR of 51.47.

In the middle-distance events, Issac Marcero achieved a personal milestone in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:05.16. Meanwhile, Eric Martinez and Nicholas Williams both impressed in the 1500m, finishing just a second apart. Martinez clocked a PR of 4:13.53, and Williams followed closely at 4:14.53.

The long-distance runners also made their mark. Christian Gleba notched a PR in the 3000m with a time of 9:29.78, while Brandon Pounders broke new ground in the 5000m with a time of 16:37.60. Caleb DeBoer had a standout performance in the 10,000m, placing 6th overall with a PR of 33:21.18, followed by teammate Hector Herrera, who took 7th with 35:30.66.

In the 400m hurdles, Jordan Landau crossed the finish line with a PR of 1:07.34, capping off a strong individual performance.

The 4x400m relay team, composed of Chris Marroquin, Issac Marcero, Zaiden Smith, and Shawn Woodall, secured 6th place overall with a solid time of 3:28.15, demonstrating their teamwork and determination.

In field events, TJ Ellison placed 9th in the high jump with a mark of 1.86m, while Logan Turney claimed victory in the pole vault with an impressive 4.75m. Kayton Garrett finished 9th in the long jump, recording a leap of 6.39m, and also placed 9th in the triple jump with 13.22m. His teammate Rickey Martinez achieved a standout 5th place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.52m.

Thompson continued his successful meet by setting a PR in the discus with a throw of 32.64m, while Pierce Reinhard placed 10th in the javelin with a mark of 40.73m.
