Bluejays Place 8th at CCIW Indoor Championship

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst University men's track and field placed 8th in the CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend hosted by Carthage College. 

North Central would finish in 1st with a score of 198 points, while Illinois Wesleyan would place 2nd with 118 points and Augustana College would round out the top three with 84.33 points. 

The Bluejays delivered an exceptional performance at the CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championships, highlighted by numerous personal records and key contributions across a variety of events. In the 55-meter dash, Tyresse Miller led the charge with a blistering lifetime PR of 6.61, followed by Pierce setting his own PR at 6.81, and Cristian Doyle rounding out the event with a PR of 8.54. In the mid-distance events, Isaac Marcero continued the streak with a standout performance in the 800 meters, clocking a new personal best of 2:06.90.

The distance squad shined in the 3000 meters, with Eric Martinez leading the way with a lifetime PR of 9:00.23, closely followed by Nicholas Williams at 9:03.94 and Caleb DeBoer smashing his previous best to record 9:12.51. Relay teams also contributed valuable points, with the 4x400 relay team of Shawn Woodall, Isaac Marcero, Chris Marroquin, and Zaiden Smith placing sixth with a time of 3:29.85, earning three points. The Distance Medley Relay team of Michael Bailey, Zaiden Smith, Chris Marroquin, and Nicholas Williams placed seventh, clocking 10:48.59 and adding two points to the team total.

Field events brought additional success, starting with TJ Ellison's fifth-place finish in the High Jump, clearing 1.88m to secure one point. Logan Turney soared in the Pole Vault, earning second place with an impressive mark of 4.71m, adding eight points for the Bluejays. In the Long Jump, Kayton Garrett placed eighth with a leap of 6.63m, while Jeffrey Leighliter achieved a lifetime PR of 6.37m. The Triple Jump saw Rickey Martinez place eighth with a mark of 13.16m, while Garrett followed closely in ninth with a jump of 13.10m.

The Heptathlon featured a remarkable performance from Jaedon Thompson, who secured third place with a lifetime PR of 4232 points, earning six points for the team.

The Bluejays are back in action at the UW-Lacrosse Last Chance Meet on March 8th before the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 14-15th.
