DECATUR, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's wrestling team opened its 2025–26 campaign with an outstanding team performance at the Millikin Open, highlighted by sophomore Rhenzo Augusto's championship run at 157 pounds and several other Bluejays placing in their respective brackets, according to verified FloWrestling results.
Augusto was dominant throughout the day, posting a perfect 5-0 record to capture the 157-pound title. He opened with a technical fall, followed with a first-period pin, and earned a major decision in the semifinals before sealing the championship in a decision. Fellow Bluejay Nassim Hammouche also competed at 157, battling through a deep bracket and earning a pair of early wins to contribute valuable team points.
At 149 pounds, sophomore Ryan Hinger pieced together a strong tournament run. Making it all the way to the championships match, collecting multiple wins—including a decisive fall—to finish 2nd in his bracket.
Freshman Anthony Cordova (125 lbs.) and junior John Villa (125B) both earned wins in their respective brackets, with Cordova recording a decision and Villa adding a fall victory in consolation action.
At 174 pounds, junior Corey Bradley delivered a solid showing, advancing deep into the bracket with multiple decision wins before bowing out late in the placement rounds.
In the upper weights, junior Sam Costello (285 lbs.) showcased strength and composure against a large heavyweight field, registering a first-period fall and finishing among the tournament's top performers.
Elmhurst's collective effort featured five wrestlers finishing in the top six of their divisions and numerous bonus-point victories across all weight classes. With a strong start anchored by Augusto's title, the Bluejays displayed depth and early-season form that bodes well for the months ahead.
Elmhurst returns to action next weekend, continuing its early-season tournament schedule as it builds momentum toward the dual season. Competing head to head on the home mats with Augustana College, Nov. 18, at 7 PM.
