Kenosha Wis. - The Elmhurst men's track and field team traveled to Carthage College to partake in the Firebird Opener for their first event of 2024 indoor track and field season, where the Bluejays would win a couple of events.
The Bluejays would finish 4th on the day with 60 points behind winner Carthage College (173), Wisconsin-Parkside (111), Carroll University (67) and rounding out the top five was Concordia University Wisconsin (51).
The Bluejays performed best in jumps winning two of the four events, starting with Logan Turney as he won the pole vault event with a 4.30m mark. In the long jump event Rickey Martinez won with a jump of 6.63m and also,moved into third place in the CCIW performance list. Kayton Garrett (4th), Jaedon Thompson (5th) and Jeffery Leighliter (9th) all set personal bests and scored for Elmhurst in the long jump as well.
In the triple jump the Bluejays had three of the top five scores with Leighliter (2nd), Garrett (3rd) and Thompson (5th), Leighliter and Garrettalso scored personal bests in the triple jump. To round out the jumps Owen Sheley set a new personal best (1.70m) in high jump.
UP NEXT
The Bluejays will look to continue their early season success next Saturday, January 20th, when they travel to Illinois Wesleyan University for the I-55 Triangular. Field and track events will begin at 12:00pm CST.
